i just bought a 1982 280zx non turbo for 200 bucks.. i slapped some primer on it and changed the oil and fuel filters, removed misc bs like cruise and ps and ac. you could put a clutch in it and some headers and a cam and put a good chunk of that 10k in the suspension and have a killer car. if you wanted to go real fast go to www.hybridz.org they have put everything in that little car from sr20det to vg30dett to rb26dett to chevy 350 and ford 302's.

I would say a 92-95 Civic Hatch or a 88-91 CRX either of those cars with an engine swap...you can get either of those cars pretty cheap!! and the power to weight ratio would be great!! Though the 92-95 Civic would be the better candidate for a swap since it is pretty much plug and play. Are you really doing this or it just a something on paper?? Where are you located I would love to help out!! Let me know what info you need!!

Oh and what kind of HP and drag race times do you have in mind?? That would be a good place to figure out since autocross veries by design of the track

This is something we are doing on paper. He is claiming 12's and a fully built suspension.
So, a 92 hatch... What motor? gsr/ls/si.. ls/vtec? na/supercharged/turbocharged.
What suspension? What brakes?

12's on slicks?? If so it will be easy to match that!! That recipe has been figured out already and has been done many times!

This is cake:
90 CRX Si 0-3000
B18C1 swap 4500
ZEX 75 Shot 600(new)
AEM FPR 150(new)
Suspension 500(new)
Slicks/Rims 300(Drag new)
(4)14"Azenis 300(auto X/Street)
Used Exhaust 200
Used Header 150
Cheap Intake 30
=$9730
Low 12's easy! Plus a hell of an auto-x car.

Ok, so now your back to square one..... Youve got a Honda that runs 12's.
90-ish AWD DSM(talon/laser/eclipse)
simple hard pipe install/front mount
lil' larger turbo
75 Shot N02
......ill stop there.....that thing will run high 11's most likely 12's like cake.
That leaves you probably 3000$ to think up whatever suspension youd like.
Basically it comes down to do you want a great drag car(the DSM)or do you want a good autox car(the Honda).
I hate DSM products and even i can see the DSM stomping the hell out of any F.I. Honda. Reliability, thats a different story. DSM's have been making mechanics out of their drivers ever since somebody said, "Wow, look how small that T-25 is compared to the T-66 "
Im with Adamn, errrr, rather Adam is with ME(American RWD V8!). Id rather have a Vette, Cobra, or hell, even my lowly GT Mustang to go have fun in. Theres just alot more to work with.
Well, actually, a nice 93 BPU++ Supra would hand both those cars its ass, but im not sure how much used Poopra's are going for these days.

I would also figure in repair costs. Cuz guarenteed, the mitsubishi will break more often than any honda.
And btw, there is no way you will be able to do a sr20 240sx for 5 grand. Anyone who has built one will tell you that, and anyone who says elsewise is lying or dumb.
A friend of mine already has 20 grand in his setup, and he bought the car for 500 bucks. Even though he is crazy, install alone on it is way higher than anyone says, and alot of the stuff that people take for granted on cars does not work in a swap, or takes time consuming labor to hookup/modify.

Okay, a good friend of mine has a Galant VR4 has given me a challenge for fun. He is doing the same thing for a DSM.
You have $10,000. You have to build the best all around honda you can, and the $10,000 _must_ include the price of the car.
Best all around car is defined as: car that can be driven daily, auto-x, road race, and drag race--and do "well" at all of them. I realize that is very subjective, however if we provide times/#'s/hp figures and provide backup data/#'s for these modifications, that will be work.
Also there must be some proof (links made available) for the price range of certain cars.
All parts must be purchased through a vendor...in other words, no going down to the local exhaust shop and getting something fabbed up for 75 bux.
What would you guys build?
